The Island
The
Cuban archipelago consists of 110,992 km2 with 1600 islets
and keys grouped in four different sets: the sub-archipelagos, Jardines del Rey (Gardens of King or Savannah),
Jardines de la Reina (Gardens of Reina) and the Canarreos.
The Cuban
archipelago is located at the entrance of
the Gulf of Mexico, in the Caribbean Sea, 140km west of the Bahamas Islands, 146km North of Jamaica,
180km South of Florida
and 210km of East of Cancún, Mexico.
Cuba is a long narrow island (1200 km in length, a maximum width of 210 km and a minimum of 32km). The island extends from Cabo San Antonio on the western end to the Punta de Maisí on the East.
